Thanks for stopping by my blog. I hope you stay a while, and find something that tickles your fancy. Feel free to contact me via email, Twitter, and/or comments.
Last Saturday I woke up at the horrific hour of six thirty in the morning (after having gone to sleep at an early 3AM.)
I woke up,
Rolled out of bed,
Pulled my hair into a high, side pony tail,
Wrapped a neon green headband around my head,
Pulled some shoes over my thigh-high stockings,
And lazily walked out the door.
My mother encouraged me to perk up and eat a granola bar or something.
"You're about to run a four mile race, you know."
Yes, yes I was.
However,
This wasn't any typical run.
This,
This was the Dirty Girl Dash.

The Dirty Girl Dash
(Or, as it was renamed this year, the Kiss Me Dirty race)
(Though I like Dirty Girl Dash better.)
(You know, alliteration.)
The Dirty Girl Dash is a four mile obstacle course run that takes place a couple times a year in Utah.
It is an all girl run that benefits the research of gynecological cancer.
But, more than anything, it is effing fun.
The race encourages women to dress up to get dirty.
There were girls in prom dresses, girls in wedding dresses, girls in tutus, girls dressed like bee's.
Even girls dressed up as tampons.
My group opted for the eighties look.
What it is, is this:
There are two two-mile laps with several obstacle courses.
Haystacks, a tire drill, tire swings, a hurdle, a five foot wall, army crawling through mud, a net climb, and a run through muddy, and also freezing, water that goes up to your knees.

| Triumphant fist pump after the first lap. |
The whole race was so much fun,
It wasn't even a race, really.
It wasn't about speed or your time or anything.
It was about getting together with a group of friends,
And getting down and dirty.
By the second lap, we took it incredibly easy and instead focused on pushing each other down in the mud.

| I can get dirty when I need to. |
And then,
At the end of the four miles,
We crossed the finish line by running through a sea of suds and bubbles.
Suffice it to say that it that the bubbles weren't nearly enough for the cleaning we needed after that run.

And as my sister wisely put it, if we could exercise like that every day, no one would ever complain about physical exertion.
So I propose we do.
Who wants to meet me at Sugar House Park to go running this weekend?
I'll be the girl in the prom dress and running shoes.
Or, if you're too shy to do that,
(Which I wouldn't blame you)
You should at least consider doing the run down in Ogden on August 20th.
It'd be totally worth your time.
Even if you do have to take a thorough, hour long shower afterwards and wash behind your ears three times.
Three times.
Sheesh.
I hate to do two Lists of Five in a row, but that's just the way it worked out, yeah?
Also, I fnished writing this last night, but am barely publishing it now.
Ohhhh wellllllll.
Here we go.
- Implications will seldom move a conversation forward. Say what you mean and mean what you say. (Insert something about an elephant being faithful here.)
- If you’re tired, just go to sleep.
- If you want to buy the DVD set of Daria, don’t hesitate. Because the super awesome 24.99, prime eligible deal that you wanted will sell out, and you’ll be forced to spend hours refreshing amazon.com to get another deal like that.
- In case you forgot, graduation parties usually mean people will give you money. Don’t make the mistake of not having one. And in case you did make that mistake, remember – there’s always “Hey, guess what? I’m going to college!” parties.
- Don’t panic if you forget what it feels like to love your favorite band. Sometimes it happens. We love a band so thoroughly that we run out of love for them temporarily. Or, not even that. We just become desensitized to that feeling their music gave us when we first listened to it. It’s scary as all get out when this happens, but the feeling will come back. Right? It’ll come back, won’t it? ….??? SOMEONE COMFORT ME I AM INCAPABLE OF COMFORTING MYSELF IN THIS REGARD I FEEL LIKE I’M BROKEN OH MY GOSH.
But until I remember what that feels like,
I will listen to The Shins and Modest Mouse.
I did just that tonight.
I properly listened to these two bands, which I haven’t done in a very long time.
And the feeling the music gave me… Man, it felt good. I felt fulfilled, or whatevs.
This led to a minor panic attack concerning Vampire Weekend.
I realized I haven’t felt that with them in a while, and that terrified the absolute bajeebus out of me.
So I tried listening to their eponymous album,
(as I have over-played Contra and thought this might be the reason for my decline in admiration)
And….
Nothing.
I felt nothing.
I was just listening to music.
I had no emotional or physical response.
Ah, I don’t like the way this feels at all.
The void it’s leaving.
This is legitimately bothering/worrying/frustrating/ me.
Is that strange?
Both that I’ve forgotten what it’s like to love my favorite band and that I’m this upset about it?
I suppose I just need to ride out this feeling.
Let it do its thing, and wait until it leaves.
Bukowski by Modest Mouse is a damn good song.

Five pieces of advice:
- When eating a delicious veggie sandwich that has the tiniest little tinge of spice due to the red onions and spicy brown mustard, the best way to quell your tingling tongue is not water, but - in fact - refrigerated red grapes.
- When grocery shopping, take ads from other grocery stores and price match. Oh the money you can save. However, whatever you do, don’t leave your ads unattended as you stock your cart with Tampico. Because the ads will get stolen and then you’ll have to pay regular price on everything. I'm not kidding, this happened.
- Stop being sad. Seriously. Just stop it. You’re harshing my mellow. (This is a conversation I just had with myself.)
- If you’ve ever wanted an autographed picture of your favorite Disney character, break out the crayons, disguise your handwriting to look like a child’s (not difficult for me), and write a letter to a character of your choice telling them why they’re your favorite. If you send it to Disney, they will send you an autographed picture in return. Because, like, why would they deny a child their dreams right? I’ve already begun to draft my love letter to Peter Pan.

- The album Two Way Monologue by Sondre Lerche is the answer to any and all problems.
Solid advice, people.
Take it to heart.

Tonight I baked.
And I considered making this part of my upcoming Baking with Adri series, rather than an Aoa18I
...
That is an awful acronym.
Anyways
When I finally do a Baking with Adri segment (which I will,) I want the pictures to be a bit nicer. Perhaaaaaaaaaaaaps I'll even vlog.
This is all yet to be determined.
So for now,
As I was baking rather late and only had my phone to take pictures,
It is going to fall under my new favorite series....

As I previously stated,
Tonight I baked.
I decided to make chocolate croissant type things, because this seemed the easiest.

The ingredients:
- A can of croissant stuff. (The kind that you have to pop! open. You know, the one that I can never do on the first try because I am too scared of it exploding. The one that also makes me jump everytime it finally busts open.)
- Nutella
- Chocolate chips
- Powdered sugar, eventually.
- Really, anything else you want to put in/on top of them. This is all I had tonight, though.
In other words, they are more swirly than triangle-y.
Tis okay.
....
Ahem.
If you didn't think baking could get inappropriate, it probably just did.
Take of that what you will.

Put chocolate chips on the heavier side of the triangle.
I'm sure there is a geometrical term for that, but I am too lazy to look it up.
If you know it, leave a comment and school me. Please.
You might have to physically shape them to actually look like croissants.
That was the goal here, but all I can see are small, sad Yoda heads.
Do Yoda's ears work like an animals?
Do they wilt when he's sad?
(Note, the one that is most Yoda-like is the one on the bottom left.
Am I the only one who see's it??)
Into the oven they go. Leave them in there for about 12 minutes.
Though my brother said that the chocolate wasn't melted as much as it should be.
We figured it might have been because of the Nutella layer.
However, I think they turned out fine so my brother knows nothing.
If you'd like, you may keep them in the oven longer to make it reeeeaaaaaalllly gooey, but there is a chance you'll burn the bread.
Priorites and decisions.
I just say this because I care.
Voila! All the little Yoda heads are snuggled together like pigs in a blanket.
#toomanymetaphors
Put one on a classy Halloween paper plate, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and enjoy.
Top off with a glass of milk in an Oregon mug, and call it a night.
Or if you're like me,
Don't call it a night, but rather a nice way to waste a half an hour.
Was this a nice way to waste a half an hour?
Are you tired yet?
I'm not.

Things I am thinking right now:
- Why doesn’t Microsoft Word have tabs, like the internet? Is this not a genius idea? My name is Adriana and Windows 8 was my idea.
- Norah Jones, your voice is going impregnate me. No homo and also yeah buddy.
- I want to redesign the layout of my blog.
- Why have I just listened to two Christmas songs in a row?
- Why didn’t I stop myself halfway through the first one?
- It’s finally summer and I am all the sudden really excited about blogging.
I’ve been compiling a list of things I want to blog about.
This list already has 11 things on it.
Eleven. That’s more than I posted the whole latter half of 2010. And I want to blog all this during the summer? Ambitious.
Perhaps it’s because it’s my last summer before college. And my blog name is Oh, The Places We’ll Go. Named after the Dr. Seuss book Oh, The Places You’ll Go. Which is the quintessential graduation/college book.
Circle of life, man.
Oh yes. Did I tell you I graduated? Oh. Well I did.
Hear, hear.
I feel as though blogging throughout the summer and into college will help keep me grounded. It will give me something to do. I mean, I will have plenty to do I’m sure, but I’ll have something to do that is constant. I don’t even know how to explain it. I just know I’m excited.
And I have many a series lined up. Oooh.
Oi. Just came up with another post idea.
Too excited for my own good.
Keep your eyes out, friends.
Bookmark and check back often.
I’d rather enjoy your company as we embark on this ride together.
So make sure you make yourself known. We are a blog family. Pretend like we are having a family reunion and it is Christmastime and we are all sitting around the tree, telling stories, drinking peppermint hot chocolate with little marshmallows, speaking to each other. Speaking to each other by means of comments and emails and Twitter and things and such.
Can’t you visualize it? I can.
Speaking of Christmas, I just listened to another Christmas song.

No shame at all.

It is 3:30 AM and I am sitting here cross-legged on my bed, with the lights off, retainer in (mmmsexy), my laptop open and an iTunes jazz/vocals genius mix transmitting into my ears.
And I am not
In any shape, way or form
Tired.
Therefore, I am blogging.
In fact, I have decided to start a new series.
You see, I don’t sleep anymore. I’m not sure why. I just don’t. I sleep, but I sleep during the day. Then at night, I let my hair loose and let the geese run wild.
Or some other phrase that is somewhere/nowhere along those lines and makes more sense.
Point is, I’m starting a new series.
A series I will call

Three things will come of this series.
- I will have something to do at night when the internet is turned off and I am left to my thoughts. Which no one likes to be left to alone, amirite?
- It will give me an excuse to blog more often, and at an hour when my speech is uninhibited and writing becomes easier.
- I will learn how to spell insomniac correctly on the first try. At the moment it takes me at least two.
Our first adventure will detail the story of my growing obsession with online shopping.
It all started when I signed up for Amazon Prime.
What is Amazon Prime, you ask?
Amazon Prime is an $80-a-year membership of some sorts that you can sign up for on amazon.com. It gives you really awesome shipping benefits such as free two day shipping and 3.99 overnight shipping on all eligible Prime offers.
Sure, sure. When I heard about it I was like “Yeah, Mrs. Gardner. That sounds really awesome. Free shipping, that’s amazing.”
But then.
Then, my friends.
I found out it was free for students.
If you are a college student and you enjoy purchasing things, I implore you to sign up for it.
If you are a college student and you don’t enjoy purchasing things, get yoself checked, and sign up for it anyways.
Because of Prime, I began to really discover the wonderment that is Amazon.
Prime, this is your fault.
Because of you, I bought a book for only dollars. Four. And it was in my hands only two days after I purchased it. Do you understand how enticing that is, Prime? Do you understand what that does to me?
It makes me buy more books I don’t need, that’s what.
After that, I searched Amazon for a laptop case. When I couldn’t find one that I liked, I tried to think of other websites that had a large pool of things I could search and purchase.
Etsy.com came to mind.
I know what you’re thinking. Oh no.
Oh no, indeed.
I finally found a case that I liked, and purchased that as well. Granted, this one was a little pricey, but it was also my graduation present from my father so I didn’t feel bad.
Because I bought this bag on Etsy, however, and because my mind was still on Prime deals, I began to search Etsy for ridiculously underpriced items.
Ask and ye shall receive. There they were. Underpriced and ready for the taking.
Underpriced, mind you, because they are totally worthless.
But when something is only 50 cents and they are offering free shipping and I have an eager debit card on hand, why wouldn’t I buy it?
So then I started thinking – where else can I buy things for super-di-duper cheap? Even better…. where can I get things for free?
Fast forward to tonight when thus began my search for internet freebies.
They are all over the place, homes. Truly. If you search “freebies in (hometown)” you are sure to find a website that will link you to freebie after freebie.
And they’re totally lame freebies. Things like free samples of juice-mix packets and Miracle Whip.
But WHY WOULDN’T I WANT THAT?
From there, I found websites where you sign up, rack up points, and in the end redeem rewards from them. savemore.com and swagbucks.com what I’m talking about here. On the former, you get $10 just for signing up. They have daily deals from an $8 reusable Essie bag, to $80 dollars worth of mineral makeup for $40 dollars. You can bet your pretty face I will be waiting until there is a deal under $10 dollars, so I can use that $10 dollar reward I have then move on with my life. I just want something for free, right?
The latter is a bit cooler. Upon sign up, you are rewarded these things called “swagbucks.” You earn swagbucks from doing all kinds of things. Watching videos, taking polls, playing games. You can even earn them by searching your everyday searches, through their search engine (powered by Google and Ask.) The more swagbucks you earn, the more you can redeem it for. Apparently, they hand out $50 amazon.com gift cards like they’re candy. I don’t know how many swagbucks you need to get something that big, but I will surely stick around to find out.
Why? Because I just want to buy things online. There is something gratifying about online shopping. And what I did tonight is hardly shopping. It’s more online bargaining. Online mooching, if you will.
Guaranteed I will be on the internet tomorrow, visiting blogs and websites and things of the sort to see which ones I can email and convince to send me free things.
If I send a complaint to Orbit for discontinuing my favorite gum, do you think they’ll send me a free packet of gum?
#thingstothinkabout
Thank goodness I’ve become obsessed with all the things I can purchase online for ridiculously cheap.
If not I’d be screwed.
Though, honestly, I think I’m just excited about receiving things in the mail.
Perhaps I’ll start a series called What Adriana Got in the Mail Today.
Things I’m expecting in the mail:
- A book
- A laptop bag
- A free Fathers Day card
- A sample of a homemade scented pillow, or something or the other.
- A sample of water juice-mix-packet-things.
- A sample of Miracle Whip. (I wasn’t kidding.)
SO MANY THINGS TO COME IN THE POST OH I’M SO EXCITED.
Wanna make my month? Send me things. I’m serious. Just do it.
Talk to you soon. Get some sleep. I know I won’t.
