WELCOME WHO I AM WHERE I LIVE WHAT I DO

Five pieces of advice:
  • When eating a delicious veggie sandwich that has the tiniest little tinge of spice due to the red onions and spicy brown mustard, the best way to quell your tingling tongue is not water, but - in fact - refrigerated red grapes.
  • When grocery shopping, take ads from other grocery stores and price match. Oh the money you can save. However, whatever you do, don’t leave your ads unattended as you stock your cart with Tampico. Because the ads will get stolen and then you’ll have to pay regular price on everything. I'm not kidding, this happened.
  • Stop being sad. Seriously. Just stop it. You’re harshing my mellow. (This is a conversation I just had with myself.)
  • If you’ve ever wanted an autographed picture of your favorite Disney character, break out the crayons, disguise your handwriting to look like a child’s (not difficult for me), and write a letter to a character of your choice telling them why they’re your favorite. If you send it to Disney, they will send you an autographed picture in return. Because, like, why would they deny a child their dreams right? I’ve already begun to draft my love letter to Peter Pan.

  • The album Two Way Monologue by Sondre Lerche is the answer to any and all problems.
Solid advice, people.
Take it to heart.

Tonight I baked.
And I considered making this part of my upcoming Baking with Adri series, rather than an Aoa18I
...
That is an awful acronym.
Anyways
When I finally do a Baking with Adri segment (which I will,) I want the pictures to be a bit nicer. Perhaaaaaaaaaaaaps I'll even vlog.
This is all yet to be determined.
So for now,
As I was baking rather late and only had my phone to take pictures,
It is going to fall under my new favorite series....

As I previously stated,
Tonight I baked.
I decided to make chocolate croissant type things, because this seemed the easiest.

The ingredients:
  • A can of croissant stuff. (The kind that you have to pop! open. You know, the one that I can never do on the first try because I am too scared of it exploding. The one that also makes me jump everytime it finally busts open.)
  • Nutella
  • Chocolate chips
  • Powdered sugar, eventually.
  • Really, anything else you want to put in/on top of them. This is all I had tonight, though.

After you open up the can, unroll the croissants, and break them up. This is a bit tricky and, as you can see, some of my triangles turned out a little Starry Night.
In other words, they are more swirly than triangle-y.
Tis okay.

Spread the Nutella across the middle of the triangles.
....
Ahem.
If you didn't think baking could get inappropriate, it probably just did.
Take of that what you will.

Put chocolate chips on the heavier side of the triangle.
I'm sure there is a geometrical term for that, but I am too lazy to look it up.
If you know it, leave a comment and school me. Please.

Starting on the heavy side, roll them up and let the pointy side fold over like so.
You might have to physically shape them to actually look like croissants.
That was the goal here, but all I can see are small, sad Yoda heads.
Do Yoda's ears work like an animals?
Do they wilt when he's sad?
(Note, the one that is most Yoda-like is the one on the bottom left.
Am I the only one who see's it??)

Into the oven they go. Leave them in there for about 12 minutes.
Though my brother said that the chocolate wasn't melted as much as it should be.
We figured it might have been because of the Nutella layer.
However, I think they turned out fine so my brother knows nothing.
If you'd like, you may keep them in the oven longer to make it reeeeaaaaaalllly gooey, but there is a chance you'll burn the bread.
Priorites and decisions.

All done! Please use oven mitts. Safety first, folks.
I just say this because I care.

Voila! All the little Yoda heads are snuggled together like pigs in a blanket.

Put one on a classy Halloween paper plate, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and enjoy.

Top off with a glass of milk in an Oregon mug, and call it a night.
Or if you're like me,
Don't call it a night, but rather a nice way to waste a half an hour.
Was this a nice way to waste a half an hour?
Are you tired yet?
I'm not.

Things I am thinking right now:
  • Why doesn’t Microsoft Word have tabs, like the internet? Is this not a genius idea? My name is Adriana and Windows 8 was my idea.
  • Norah Jones, your voice is going impregnate me. No homo and also yeah buddy.
  • I want to redesign the layout of my blog.
  • Why have I just listened to two Christmas songs in a row?
  • Why didn’t I stop myself halfway through the first one?
  • It’s finally summer and I am all the sudden really excited about blogging.
I’ve been compiling a list of things I want to blog about.
This list already has 11 things on it.
Eleven. That’s more than I posted the whole latter half of 2010. And I want to blog all this during the summer? Ambitious.
Perhaps it’s because it’s my last summer before college. And my blog name is Oh, The Places We’ll Go. Named after the Dr. Seuss book Oh, The Places You’ll Go. Which is the quintessential graduation/college book.
Circle of life, man.
Oh yes. Did I tell you I graduated? Oh. Well I did.

Hear, hear.
I feel as though blogging throughout the summer and into college will help keep me grounded. It will give me something to do. I mean, I will have plenty to do I’m sure, but I’ll have something to do that is constant. I don’t even know how to explain it. I just know I’m excited.
And I have many a series lined up. Oooh.
Oi. Just came up with another post idea.
Too excited for my own good.
Keep your eyes out, friends.
Bookmark and check back often.
I’d rather enjoy your company as we embark on this ride together.
So make sure you make yourself known. We are a blog family. Pretend like we are having a family reunion and it is Christmastime and we are all sitting around the tree, telling stories, drinking peppermint hot chocolate with little marshmallows, speaking to each other. Speaking to each other by means of comments and emails and Twitter and things and such.
Can’t you visualize it? I can.
Speaking of Christmas, I just listened to another Christmas song.
#noshame
No shame at all.

It is 3:30 AM and I am sitting here cross-legged on my bed, with the lights off, retainer in (mmmsexy), my laptop open and an iTunes jazz/vocals genius mix transmitting into my ears.
And I am not
In any shape, way or form
Tired.
Therefore, I am blogging.
In fact, I have decided to start a new series.
You see, I don’t sleep anymore. I’m not sure why. I just don’t. I sleep, but I sleep during the day. Then at night, I let my hair loose and let the geese run wild.
Or some other phrase that is somewhere/nowhere along those lines and makes more sense.
Point is, I’m starting a new series.
A series I will call
Three things will come of this series.
  1. I will have something to do at night when the internet is turned off and I am left to my thoughts. Which no one likes to be left to alone, amirite?
  2. It will give me an excuse to blog more often, and at an hour when my speech is uninhibited and writing becomes easier.
  3. I will learn how to spell insomniac correctly on the first try. At the moment it takes me at least two.
Our first adventure will detail the story of my growing obsession with online shopping.
It all started when I signed up for Amazon Prime.
What is Amazon Prime, you ask?
Amazon Prime is an $80-a-year membership of some sorts that you can sign up for on amazon.com. It gives you really awesome shipping benefits such as free two day shipping and 3.99 overnight shipping on all eligible Prime offers.
Sure, sure. When I heard about it I was like “Yeah, Mrs. Gardner. That sounds really awesome. Free shipping, that’s amazing.”
But then.
Then, my friends.
I found out it was free for students.
If you are a college student and you enjoy purchasing things, I implore you to sign up for it.
If you are a college student and you don’t enjoy purchasing things, get yoself checked, and sign up for it anyways.
Because of Prime, I began to really discover the wonderment that is Amazon.
Prime, this is your fault.
Because of you, I bought a book for only dollars. Four. And it was in my hands only two days after I purchased it. Do you understand how enticing that is, Prime? Do you understand what that does to me?
It makes me buy more books I don’t need, that’s what.
After that, I searched Amazon for a laptop case. When I couldn’t find one that I liked, I tried to think of other websites that had a large pool of things I could search and purchase.
Etsy.com came to mind.
I know what you’re thinking. Oh no.
Oh no, indeed.
I finally found a case that I liked, and purchased that as well. Granted, this one was a little pricey, but it was also my graduation present from my father so I didn’t feel bad.
Because I bought this bag on Etsy, however, and because my mind was still on Prime deals, I began to search Etsy for ridiculously underpriced items.
Ask and ye shall receive. There they were. Underpriced and ready for the taking.
Underpriced, mind you, because they are totally worthless.
But when something is only 50 cents and they are offering free shipping and I have an eager debit card on hand, why wouldn’t I buy it?
So then I started thinking – where else can I buy things for super-di-duper cheap? Even better…. where can I get things for free?
Fast forward to tonight when thus began my search for internet freebies.
They are all over the place, homes. Truly. If you search “freebies in (hometown)” you are sure to find a website that will link you to freebie after freebie.
And they’re totally lame freebies. Things like free samples of juice-mix packets and Miracle Whip.
But WHY WOULDN’T I WANT THAT?
From there, I found websites where you sign up, rack up points, and in the end redeem rewards from them. savemore.com and swagbucks.com what I’m talking about here. On the former, you get $10 just for signing up. They have daily deals from an $8 reusable Essie bag, to $80 dollars worth of mineral makeup for $40 dollars. You can bet your pretty face I will be waiting until there is a deal under $10 dollars, so I can use that $10 dollar reward I have then move on with my life. I just want something for free, right?
The latter is a bit cooler. Upon sign up, you are rewarded these things called “swagbucks.” You earn swagbucks from doing all kinds of things. Watching videos, taking polls, playing games. You can even earn them by searching your everyday searches, through their search engine (powered by Google and Ask.) The more swagbucks you earn, the more you can redeem it for. Apparently, they hand out $50 amazon.com gift cards like they’re candy. I don’t know how many swagbucks you need to get something that big, but I will surely stick around to find out.
Why? Because I just want to buy things online. There is something gratifying about online shopping. And what I did tonight is hardly shopping. It’s more online bargaining. Online mooching, if you will.
Guaranteed I will be on the internet tomorrow, visiting blogs and websites and things of the sort to see which ones I can email and convince to send me free things.
If I send a complaint to Orbit for discontinuing my favorite gum, do you think they’ll send me a free packet of gum?
#thingstothinkabout
Thank goodness I’ve become obsessed with all the things I can purchase online for ridiculously cheap.
If not I’d be screwed.
Though, honestly, I think I’m just excited about receiving things in the mail.
Perhaps I’ll start a series called What Adriana Got in the Mail Today.
Things I’m expecting in the mail:
  • A book
  • A laptop bag
  • A free Fathers Day card
  • A sample of a homemade scented pillow, or something or the other.
  • A sample of water juice-mix-packet-things.
  • A sample of Miracle Whip. (I wasn’t kidding.)
SO MANY THINGS TO COME IN THE POST OH I’M SO EXCITED.
Wanna make my month? Send me things. I’m serious. Just do it.
Talk to you soon. Get some sleep. I know I won’t.

I have made a decision, and the decision is this:

I am going to start blogging again.
At least,
I'm going to try.
Perhaps this will be more remedial than anything else.
But
Why not, yeah?

Though, blogging might be harder than anticipated.
I fear I will have nothing to say,
As it seems I have less and less to say each day.
That frustrates me.
And it's frustrating that it frustrates me.
I was once so complacent with silence.
I reveled in it, even.
I was once perfectly pleased with the placidity of my perceptions.
But I have since then allowed noise into my life.
Without realizing it,
I was suddenly surrounded by sounds.
By noise.
By dissonance and resonance.
Without realizing it,
I made my ears vulnerable to clamor and clatter of consciousness.
Suddenly,
My ears yearned to listen.
And my tongue yearned to respond.
I wanted a rapport with noise.
And finally, I had one.
I became comfortable with noise.
I let it fill me up.
I found cracks and voids in my life and filled them with noise.
I heard noise,
And I made noise.
I contributed to the wall of sound that was pushing me through each day.
And now,
As graduation gets nearer,
I can feel things literally come to a close.
Daily, things become quieter.
The noise is slipping away from me.
Growing faint.
I am being thrown back into silence.
And it's a silence that makes me uneasy.
I am suffocating in silence.
An unbearably loud silence.
And this loudness is creating a pressure on my being,
But it's not that of the wall of sound.
I am not being pushed forward, safely and steadily, anymore.
I am instead being pushed within myself.
Becoming quieter and quieter.
Suffocating.
And I am grasping for something to break the surface tension.
To allow the sound particles to reverberate once more.
To resonate and echo my mind into activity.
I'm grasping but not grabbing.
And so my mind is being thrust into the sound of silence once more.
Major aspects of my life are coming to a close,
And I worry I'll have to get used to the silence again.
I want to fight it,
But,
I'm afraid that standing alone I'm not loud enough.

That said,
I've been listening to lots of Simon & Garfunkel lately.

See you all soon.

I feel as though I'm in this process of self-actualization.

I'm in this time in my life where I'm trying to really dig into the core and figure out
What I think and why I think it.
I'm trying to figure out my precepts and my dogma,
And trying to figure out what works for me.
I have certain philosophies,
But lately,
As I'm trying to really figure them,
And
Myself
Out,
I'm second guessing them.
Take love for example.
I don't believe in love.
I don't believe in relationships.
I think its silly, and I think its frivolous, and I think its foolish
But
Do I really believe that?
Or have I just convinced myself that I believe that?
Is that something that I'm really 100% sure about?
Is that something that I honestly and truly believe?
I'm suddenly questioning it,
I'm questioning my tenets.
And that's a scary thing to do,
To question your tenets
Because it's supposedly something that you held true,
So when you start to question it,
You're suddenly at a loss.
You're exposing yourself,
In the way that you would expose your fear when encountering a wild animal.
You know the saying that you should never let them smell fear, because that will give them agency to attack
But you can't help but show fear
Because
Well
It's effin terrifying.
Abandoning your ideas is like that.
All of the sudden you feel vulnerable,
You don't know what to believe anymore,
And you don't know what's going to work for you,
And you wonder if your previous views worked for you in the first place.
Like,
When did I stop believing in love, or even romantic feelings in general?
Why?
I think it's a defense mechanism.
I think I put up a guard.
But, more than anything, I think I used that as an excuse.
For so long,
I wanted to be that for someone and wanted someone to be that for me.
But it wasn't happening for me.
I'd feel something,
Anything,
For anyone,
And it was never reciprocated.
So I finally just stopped feeling.
I willed myself to stop.
So I stopped worrying and stressing about why no one could feel that for me,
And I blamed it on the fact that it was something I didn't want.
So second guessing what I believe,
And
Second guessing this guard I've built,
Has screwed me up.
For a moment, I allowed myself to perhaps feel something,
But quickly realized that it's not something that would be practical,
And the moment passed.
And that's fine.
But it's as if that one notion,
No matter how fleeting it was,
Opened up a wound.
And now there is a lingering desire to be something for somebody.
But there is also the stinging recognition that I can't, for some reason, make that happen.
I haven't seen it, I haven't seen it in myself, I haven't felt that happen
And yet all the sudden it's something I want to feel
It's something that I want
But I have the innate despondency that it's something that I will never have.
Which is the whole reason I abandoned this belief in the first place,
Because of the consumption I know it can take on me.
I will romanticize the idea
And let the idea root deep inside of me,
And when it doesn't actualize,
I will spiral.

And that's not to say I want to fall in love.
I don't.
I don't want to fall in love.
I just want a human connection,
A genuine human connection.
I want something that is circumstantial and situational,
The kind of thing where it's in the moment, and who knows what will happen tomorrow, and who cares what will happen tomorrow, because it's what good for right now.
Which, in itself, is a new idea for me.
Previously,
I avoided romantic situations
And even non-romantic situations,
Because I knew how it would end.
But, I feel like now I see the beauty in the situational.
The beauty in the moment.
The fleeting.

But even then.
As stripped down as I would like it to be,
As easy as it seems,
I know it won't be easy,
And I know that it's something that will be incredibly hard to find,
Which is infuriating,
Because now I'm impatient.
I trained myself to not think about it,
About love.
About feeling something towards another human being in general,
I trained myself to suppress the hunger.
And now that I have thought about it,
The hunger's come,
And its not even a hunger,
It's a craving,
It's a craving that I can feel hitting me full-force.
And now I don't know what to do,
I don't know whether to ignore it,
Or to satiate it.

I don't know what I believe.
I don't know what works for me.
I have to reassess and evaluate.
Which I suppose its natural,
It's human evolution,
But....

I don't know.
I don't know.

And that, my friends, is everything Adriana Martinez has thought in the past 24 hours.
It's been something I've been trying to verbalize all day,
And attempted to a couple of times,
But it's as if my thoughts kept getting cock-blocked.
Which was frustrating.
So by the time that school neared it's end and I went home,
I was so exhausted with thinking,
And trying to comprehend,
And trying to reassess,
And trying to do this all internally, because it seemed as if no one was listening,
I was so exhausted with doing all this and getting nowhere,
That by the afternoon I shut down into a mode of indifference and passivity.
Thinking and utilizing the depth of the human mind is something that I've been trying to do more of, lately.
But today,
The brain wasn't an instrument,
But rather a weapon.
Towards only myself.

It sucked, man.

So since I last did a real blog update I:
  • Applied for college.
  • Got in to college.
  • Can't pay for college.
  • Got a quesadilla for Christmas. (For college.)
Yes. I got a quesadilla maker, and Kolbie got a a MacBook Pro.
But I'll try not to be jealous.

I've been real puzzled about what to do with this 'ere blog when I go to college.
I dont know if I want to keep blogging on this blog.
Should I continue on this blog?
Should I create a new blog?
Should I create a new blog on tumblr?
Should I VLOG on youtube?
The possibilities are endless.
(Though, I can tell you right now I wont be vlogging any time soon.
I'm not nearly interesting enough.
I have a hard time keeping my three friends interested in my life.
Trying to keep all of YOU interested too?
Come on.)

I honestly cannot even wait to go to college.
I can't wait to have new experiences.
To live on my own.
To meet new people.
Thats what I'm most excited for.
Meeting new people.
I feel like I've met everyone in Utah.
Or at least everyone in Cottonwood.
Or at least everryone in my grade.
Or at least everyone worth meeting in my grade.
Or at least everyone in my grade worth meeting who's willing to meet me.
Aka: Not a lot of people.
I need new people in my life.
People with the same interests as me.
People who will nerdily obsess over music with me.
People who will... I dont know. Relate to me.
Not to say the people I know now dont relate to me.
I just want to meet someone.
To get to know someone.
Someone who doesnt know me.
I can't wait for that in college.

That is... if I can even pay for college.

I also got a panini maker for Christmas.
I may not be able to do my homework in college, but at least I wont starve.
