WELCOME WHO I AM WHERE I LIVE WHAT I DO

If I dont blog, I'll sleep.

Which usually is my favorite thing to do, but I dont much feel like going into my room and laying next to my empty fishbowl-less desk.
You understand right?
Good.
Onward and upward.

In other (happier) news, I mentioned yesterday being the perfect day.
And in post twelve (I think it was) I said that the perfect day would be set to the perfect playlist.
Well turns out the perfect playlist consists of 20 or so Vampire Weekend songs.
And turns out its more of a setlist than a playlist.
Yes, my dear friends, the signs are all pointing to what you think they're pointing to.
The Vampire Weekend concert.
Did I ever mention I like Vampire Weekend?
(sarcasm)
The concert was perfection.
There really is no other way to describe it.
Bee and I left right after school to wait at the venue, and ended up waiting in life from 3:00 to 7:00.
Dedication, yo's.
We waited in the wind and rain but it was one thousand percent worth it when we were the very first ones in line/ the very first ones in the venue/ front and center.
We all joked about wanting to be so close we could see the sweat drip off their faces,
But we actually ended up being so close, we did see sweat drip off ther faces.
Not only that,
We were so close we could actually see the color of Ezra Koenig's eyes.
It was literally us -> the bar -> the stage.
I got so into every single song.
Every time they played, it was like experiencing music on a whole other level.
A level of enlightenment.
(^ To quote a book that I'm sure most of you wandering on my blog have read.)
I dont think I've ever danced so hard in my life.
And how could you not?
Song after song was just incredible.
The energy that the band had on stage was infectious.
You couldnt help but moves your hips like Ezra Koening.
You couldnt help but imitate Chris Baios slow-bounce movement.
You couldnt help but be as excited about the beats as Chris Tomson was.
You couldnt help but appreciate all the wicked instrumental work Rostam Batmanglij did on... everything.
You just couldnt help it.
At times, randomly during a song, Chris Baio would look around, or look behind him, and just start laughing.
And you laughed too.
Nothing was funny,
But it was just such an amazing energy that you had to laugh.
Though, the energy did have its downfalls.
Being up at the front,
Right up against the fence,
Did mean that when the crowd got a little too excited, they pushed and pushed you against the bar
And were literally crushing your lungs to the point where it was hard to breath.
I have bruises on my knees/forearms/chest.
But like I said to Bee every time it got a little too rough:
"For Vampire Weekend!"
It was like our battle-cry of the night.
Half the time I didnt even notice I was being pushed within an inch of my life.
I was so immersed in what was happening in front of me.
Ezra Koenig noticed, though.
And he mentioned twice to watch out for the folks in the front.
Being in the front, he looked my way.
We made eye contact twice.
And he nodded at me once.
In the deep realms of his subconcious, Ezra Koenig knows I exist.
Life: complete.
Everything about the night was magical and glorious and perfect and every other adjective that could describe the infinity of the night.
(And I use infinity in an "infinitely perfect" type of way. Not in a number type of way.)
At the end of the concert, Ezra and Chris (Baio) threw their guitar picks out into the crowd.
They got slapped onto the floor, by someone in the front, and it turned into war.
And understanding how important it was to me, my sister enlisted.
And, true to her nature, she won.
I have Ezra Koenigs pick.
His pick!
The only one that he used all night.
You can see where the text rubbed off on the back, because he was holding it.
He didnt switch it out like most musicians do during a concert.
He used this one pick.
And I have it.
This is the pick he used to play Walcott, Mansard Roof, Oxford Comma, White Sky...
When I came to this realization at the concert, I literally almost teared up.
Thats how awesome and influential they are.

(our sweet view/Ezra's pick/Ezra's pick[worn side]/venue where they played)

(shirt I got at the concert)

*Sigh*
It was perfect.
Now what I wanna know is,
What's the best concert you've been to / why?

We could never be friends. I'm sorry. But we couldnt. Sometimes I think we could, and sometimes I open up to you. But then I realize that that's exactly how I feel. Open. When I tell you things that I would only tell my closest friends, I feel like I'm standing in the middle of a vast field. I feel exposed. At first, its a brilliant idea to tell you things. But when I do, I dont feel the same relief as when I tell my friends.

Yesterday, my fish died. I think you know more about my fish than anyone else. You knew about the irony behind his brilliant name. You knew what I had to go through to get him. You knew I didnt get him for christmas. You knew the second I got him for my birthday. You knew he didnt like me at first. You knew how to fix it. You knew about the time that he tried to fight with his reflection. It only made sense that I wanted you to know that he was "no longer."
I tried to talk to you all day. To tell you the news. It was important to me. Until I got the chance to talk to you, I talked to other people. One said "We have to go to the fish market right now! Screw class, we have to get Adriana a new fishie!" Another said "Here - to make you feel better, read this poem I wrote about you." (It did. So much that it made me cry even more than I was.) Someone else gave me the most sympathetic look when I bore the news - a look that made me know that even if they didnt truly understand why I was upset over a fish, they understood that the fish meant a lot to me. And because of that they felt the pain - if you will - with me. Someone else told me that my fish was probably playing with her cat and dog in animal heaven. And when I told that person the whole story - about how yesterday was perfect up until the last second when my fish died, that person reminded me that technically my fish died this morning. (At 12:30-ish.) That person assured me that yesterday could still be the perfect day. It was today that was sad.

Not that I was expecting you to say or do any of this. I guess I was just expecting you to be a little more sympathetic. I guess I was expecting you, of all people, to understand. But it was proven today, that I didnt need someone to understand the fish - which you did. I needed someone to understand me. And the people who I talked to before you understood me. I'm not sure you did.

I told you and the first thing you said was "You killed your fish?!"
I was telling you the story and you had a smirk on your face, like you found it amusing.
I said, in the midst of my 300 words per minute rant, "And you're probably wondering why I felt the need to tell you this, but I just wanted to tell you in person."
You shrugged like you were wondering why I felt the need to tell you this.
You dont get it.
And, I suppose, I shouldnt expect you to.
But a part of me did expect you to.
And who knows - maybe you're smirk and nonchalance about the situation was youre way of trying to console me by playing it off like it was no big deal. By pretending like I shouldnt be upset.
Or maybe thats just me making up excuses for you, due to the fact that I want to be your friend.
Maybe you really dont care.
After I walked away from you I tried to remember why I even wanted to tell you in the first place.
I couldnt remember.

I want to be your friend.
But you and I are so different.

I'm sorry for writing about you in my blog. I swore I would never.

RIP Alpha The Beta Fish.

I really like St Patricks Day.
For no reason, really.
I'm not Irish.
I dont drink.
I dont party with the best of them, or anything.
I merely go to school,
Revel in the sea of green clothing,
And call it a day.
But for some reason,
Whenever I see someone wearing green,
It really makes me happy.
Its like...
You dont expect the quiet kid in your history class to take part in the tradition.
And yet, there he is wearing a green striped shirt.
Or you figure the gangsta's of the school will be too cholo to give in.
But they surprise you by dressing up.
(In their own weird interpretation of the holiday,
But nevertheless, they're wearing green.)
Its just cool that its, like, unspoken.
We dont need a campaign telling us to wear green.
We dont need posters reminding us.
We just know.
Its St Patricks Day -
Wear green.
And its cool that (most) everyone participates.
That for one day everyone is a part of this one thing.
Its.... unifying, almost.
Wow.
I'm a loser.
But I'm telling you this, nonetheless.
Happy St Patties Day, all!

P.s. Here is the video of Rachels birthday party, that I mentioned a while back.

On March 6th, seven of us gathered 'round my house and celebrated the 17th birthday of the magnificent Rachel Anna.
It was an Alice in Wonderland theme and we all had a fantastic time.
At least, I hope everyone did.
I did all I could to make it enjoyable.
Planning it was a thrill, but it was also incredibly tiring as the party got nearer.
(By the end of the day I was exhausted. Haha.)
Anyways, this is the commemoration.
Some (ahem... most) of the shots are shaky, but look past them por favor.
Song = Sleeping Lessons by The Shins.

I'll be your best friend. =)

They give excuses saying they've been busy with school, with work, what have you.
I am not here to say any of that.
I am simply here to blog.
Blog about music.
I was making a CD for my friends and as I was putting the playlist together I figured, why not make a playlist blog?
So here we go.

SPRING ELECTRONS

I noticed Ive been drawn to electronic-esque music lately.
Which is a bit strange for me, but I like it.
And also, i've been drawn to music that warms my insides and reminds me of Spring.
This playlist is a 15 song fusion of the two.
Ergo the playlist name: "Spring Electrons"
So get out your dancing pumps and your Ray Bans, and enjoy.
(p.s. songs of note will be italicized. If you feel so inclined to download and listen to a few of these songs, I suggest you start with the ones either embedded or italicized.)
(Though I really hope you give all the songs a listen.)

Lets start off the playlist with.....

Hello Sunshine - Syd Matters
Yes, this a cover of Hello Sunshine by Super Furry Animals. Yes, it's from The O.C. They use this song in the fourth season when Summer meets Seth at the airport, in Rhode Island. Cue slow-mo, small hair flip, and breath intake from Seth. Can you blame him? Listen to the song. You'll take in a breath too.

Swing Tree - Discovery
I downloaded this song, and forgot about it. I didn't think about it twice and moved on. Recently, I rediscovered it (no pun intended.) As I was listening to it for the third time around, I REALLY listened to it. And I noticed something... This band reminds me an awful lot of Vampire Weekend. There was just something about the mixing of the voices, and the synthetic piano, and SOMETHING, that reminded me of Vampire Weekend. So I googled this band, and read up on them. And what did I find? Discovery is the love child of Wes Miles from Ra Ra Riot and Rostam Batmanglij from Vampire Weekend. ... I think it's safe to say that I'm awesome and I know my music. And that this song is even more awesome than I am. See if you can spot the VW influence in it.

Oh Boy - Miss Li
I have a sneaking suspicion that this song was on a commercial or something. With good reason, I guess. It perky and playful and I love it.

Sleepyhead - Passion Pit
If this song doesn't get you moving, I don't know what will. Sway, and feel alive.

Dance Anthem of the 80's - Regina Spektor
Regina Spektor is the epitome of cool. And also, this song is even called Dance Anthem... need I say more?

Terminally Chill - Neon Indian
Combine this song with sunshine, bubbles, dance, and bright yellow sunglasses. Means for a great day.

To Kingdom Come - Passion Pit
Think of a summer nights sky full of stars. Close your eyes. Breath in the air. Dance.

Red Sweater - The Aquabats
My brother and his band do a cover this song when they play shows. Everytime it gets me off my feet. (Not skanking, though, cause I'm horrible at it.) However, if you know the art of skanking please skank away. If you don't, simply get into it. It's not hard.

I Want You To - Weezer
I love this song. So much. It's impossible for me to listen to it and not be bursting with movement on the inside. Refrain from listening to this song somewhere where you're not comfortable dancing. Cause you MUST. End of story. Period.

Feel The Love - Cut Copy
Yes. Feel the love. Live the love. Dance the love.

Help Im Alive - Metric
I owe this song discovery to my sister, Ingrid. She loves it so much - her enthusiasm about it is contagious. Throw your fists up and punch the air during the bridge, and dance to the chorus. It'll make you feel good.

Plastic Stars - Freezepop
Drive on an isolated road, with the windows down, listening to this song. Just trust me.

When I Goosestep - The Shins
This song is different then the other songs on the playlist. But they're The Shins and they're awesome so it doesnt matter.

The Importance of Being - Northern Two
I hesitate putting this song in. It's a good song, don't get me wrong. But there is controversy about who sings it. Some say it's Postal Service, some say it's Northern Two. Both deny any involvement in the song. I'm sure it's not Postal Service - the vocals definitely don't belong to Ben Gibbard. I'm going to say it's Northern Two, but I suppose that's just opinion. Cause the source of this song is a mystery. Anyhoo, it's a good song. Whoever it is was definitely channeling Postal Service, which makes it enjoyable to listen to nonetheless.

Sweet Disposition - The Temper Trap
This song is beautiful. I'm pretty sure this is the song that plays on 500 Days of Summer when they are out and about looking at architecture. Paired with this song, its the picture perfect date.

Voila! I hope you all take the time to check out a few of the songs. They're worth it. Promise.
If you do listen to the all the songs, let me know what you think!
Even if you only listen to the songs that were embedded on this here post, let me know what you think!
And let me know what you think about the post in general.
Is it a kind of post you wouldnt mind seeing again?
Or was it a waste of words and bandwidth?
I wanna know. I can take the truth.
Happy weekend everybody.
=)
