My dog is preparing for the apocalypse.
I'm absolutely sure of it.
Every time I fill his food bowl with little doggy bits that look like - but I'm sure taste nothing like - cocoa puffs,
He waits until you walk away,
Takes a single piece,
And runs it over to his kennel.
I'm not kidding.
I noticed him do it once, but thought I had just caught some random act.
But I've been doing some serious detective work and keeping records,
(Aka - simply just watching for it)
And he does it every time.
So today I looked in is kennel,
And lo and behold there's a giant food stash in there.
He knows something I dont......
Doesnt this face look like the face of someone who's trying to tell you something?

Dont say I didnt warn you.

In other news,
I noticed my past few posts all have the word "forty" mispelled in them.
Which was embarrassing for point 4 seconds.
Meh.
You win some, you lose some.

I'm not sure why I abandoned my poor little blog for quite some time.
But I apologize for the absence.
Though I'm sure no one even noticed.
I will try to update more frequently.
But we'll see how long that thought lasts.

For now, I'll leave you with a little story.
On Tuesday, I went to the Ra Ra Riot concert.
I arrived only an hour early and expected to be pretty far back in line.
Nay, my friends.
There were only like two other girls in line.
Which allowed the band members to walk out and about.
Which allowed annoying fans like me to bug them for pictures.
I met Wes Miles and Mathieu Santos, but I mean, no big.
!!!

Also, since the last time I blogged I met Chris Tomson from Vampire Weekend.

Ok,
I didnt.
But isnt he cute in this picture?

When Alpha The Beta Fish died, everyone immediately told me to get a new fish.
But I wasnt ready.
I felt like I would be replacing Alpha.
However, I very quickly realized how lonely it was without a fish.
I wanted to have a new fish-friend, but I didnt want to seem rude by moving on so quickly.
By now, though, everyone seemed to respect my decision of not getting another fish.
But what I needed was someone to tell me to buck up and move on.
Luckily such a person exists in my life.
Him: Have you gotten a new fish yet?
Me: No. Like I said, I dont want to replace him so easily. But then again, its very lonely without one. I find myself constantly looking over at my bed-side table, where his bowl used to be. Its become habit, and its knd of depressing.
So in short: no. Its all very confusing.
Him: Ok... I'll help you! Get one!!!

{relief}
Well, if you insist.
So, after much consideration and contemplation, I decided it was time to get another fish.
I originally wanted a goldfish.
Then I was convinced to get an x-ray fish.
And I got really excited about that.
Then I went to the store and was convinced an x-ray fish was a bad idea.
Because I have a bowl, not a tank.
Apparently the only fish that lives super well in a bowl is a beta fish.
But I didnt want to get a replacement Alpha.
(It'd be too weird to have a fish that looks exactly the same.)
So, a bit disappointed, I opted for my original plan.
And I got a goldfish.
In fact, I got two.
Meet Clark & Kent:

CLARK

KENT

Though they're not x-ray fish, I'm content with my decision.
I missed having a fish.
And the more I watch them, the more I get attached to them.
But now I am once again in the stages of getting to know my fish.
When I first got Alpha I swear he didnt like me.
But eventually got he used to me.
So I'm trying to get to that point with Clark & Kent now.
Cause right now theyre skittish.
And Kent's a little feisty.
In due time, I suppose.

I miss Alpha, but I think this will be really good.
And luckily goldfish arent as delicate as beta fish.
Together, Clark & Kent will join forces and become indestructible.

Today, I woke up and I wanted Spaghetti-O's.
I opened the can, poured it into a bowl, and popped it into the microwave.
When it came out, I realized...
This is a LOT of Spaghetti-O's.
I offered some to my brother, hoping he would split it with me, to no avail.
So I decided I would eat what I could, and put the rest in the fridge for later.
So there I was,
Watching Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on DVR, and happily munching away on my Spaghetti-O's with a green spoon.
(Yes, I eat my Spaghetti-O's with a spoon, not a fork.)
When I decided I was full, I was still watching TV.
So I set the bowl aside telling myself I would put it away when I was done.
Then my father came in and asked me to clean the kitchen.
I happily obliged.
(With absolutely no sarcasm in that last line. I was strangely ok with being asked to clean. Which was odd for me.)
I happily obliged, and went to the kitchen.
After doing the dishes and cleaning the counters, I moved on to the floor.
I started prepping it for brooming/mopping by picking up large pieces of garbage off the floor.
Next to my dogs kennel was a broken green spoon.
I picked it up, thinking dang puppy and threw it away.
I broomed.
I mopped.
I was done.
I moved back into the TV room and decided I would finish this episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon later.
Turning off the TV, I grabbed my bowl.
And noticed it was empty.
My eyebrows furrowed.
Really? Had I eaten all of it, and didnt remember?
Surely I wasnt THAT forgetful.
Or that pathetic, that I ate without noticing.
No.
I specifically remember not eating all of it.
Confused, I took the bowl to the kitchen and put it in the sink.
On my way, I saw my dog.
And it clicked.
The empty bowl, the broken green spoon near his kennel, the guilty look in his eye.
Jack had eaten my Spaghetti-O's.
For some, this might not be a big deal.
But in our house it is a strict rule that the dog isnt supposed to eat human food.
I looked down at my dog and put my hand on my hips.
"Did you eat my Spaghetti-O's?" I asked.
He simply looked at me.
I asked again.
He looked down for a second then looked back up at me again.
Busted.
I thought of all the rules he had broken.
He went into the TV room (which he isnt supposed to do.)
Climbed onto the couch (which he isnt supposed to be on) to reach my bowl
And ate my food (which he isnt supposed to eat.)
I shook my head at him and he scurried away.
Ah, pets.
Luckily for him I found it more amusing than anything so I let him get away with it.
That conniving little fur ball.

If I dont blog, I'll sleep.

Which usually is my favorite thing to do, but I dont much feel like going into my room and laying next to my empty fishbowl-less desk.
You understand right?
Good.
Onward and upward.
(Disclaimer: only Exploration (the video), the picture frames, and the excerpt at the end belong to me. Everything else was found on various places on the internet. And I'm too lazy to get all the links. But they're credited in my heart.)

We could never be friends. I'm sorry. But we couldnt. Sometimes I think we could, and sometimes I open up to you. But then I realize that that's exactly how I feel. Open. When I tell you things that I would only tell my closest friends, I feel like I'm standing in the middle of a vast field. I feel exposed. At first, its a brilliant idea to tell you things. But when I do, I dont feel the same relief as when I tell my friends.

Yesterday, my fish died. I think you know more about my fish than anyone else. You knew about the irony behind his brilliant name. You knew what I had to go through to get him. You knew I didnt get him for christmas. You knew the second I got him for my birthday. You knew he didnt like me at first. You knew how to fix it. You knew about the time that he tried to fight with his reflection. It only made sense that I wanted you to know that he was "no longer."
I tried to talk to you all day. To tell you the news. It was important to me. Until I got the chance to talk to you, I talked to other people. One said "We have to go to the fish market right now! Screw class, we have to get Adriana a new fishie!" Another said "Here - to make you feel better, read this poem I wrote about you." (It did. So much that it made me cry even more than I was.) Someone else gave me the most sympathetic look when I bore the news - a look that made me know that even if they didnt truly understand why I was upset over a fish, they understood that the fish meant a lot to me. And because of that they felt the pain - if you will - with me. Someone else told me that my fish was probably playing with her cat and dog in animal heaven. And when I told that person the whole story - about how yesterday was perfect up until the last second when my fish died, that person reminded me that technically my fish died this morning. (At 12:30-ish.) That person assured me that yesterday could still be the perfect day. It was today that was sad.

Not that I was expecting you to say or do any of this. I guess I was just expecting you to be a little more sympathetic. I guess I was expecting you, of all people, to understand. But it was proven today, that I didnt need someone to understand the fish - which you did. I needed someone to understand me. And the people who I talked to before you understood me. I'm not sure you did.

I told you and the first thing you said was "You killed your fish?!"
I was telling you the story and you had a smirk on your face, like you found it amusing.
I said, in the midst of my 300 words per minute rant, "And you're probably wondering why I felt the need to tell you this, but I just wanted to tell you in person."
You shrugged like you were wondering why I felt the need to tell you this.
You dont get it.
And, I suppose, I shouldnt expect you to.
But a part of me did expect you to.
And who knows - maybe you're smirk and nonchalance about the situation was youre way of trying to console me by playing it off like it was no big deal. By pretending like I shouldnt be upset.
Or maybe thats just me making up excuses for you, due to the fact that I want to be your friend.
Maybe you really dont care.
After I walked away from you I tried to remember why I even wanted to tell you in the first place.
I couldnt remember.

I want to be your friend.
But you and I are so different.

I'm sorry for writing about you in my blog. I swore I would never.

RIP Alpha The Beta Fish.

Five posts in, and I have yet to introduce myself properly.
I think this is due to the fact that I just figured no one but the two people I associate with, and my sisters, would read it.
And they all know me.
But what about those who dont?
Surely,
eventually,
SOMEONE who doesnt
quite know me will read my blog?
(When, and if, you do, please make sure to leave a comment.
Its nice to know I'm not just sending my rants into the black abyss of the internet.)
So, my friends, this is me:

My name is Adriana.
Feel free to call me Adri, for short.
(Dont be decieved.
Though Adriana is pronounced AY-driana,
Adri is pronounced AW-dri.)
I am 17 years old.
I have three older sisters - Ingrid, Astrid, and Amanda - who I've already talked about more than once in my blog.
I also have a younger brother, Eduardo.
I live in Utah,
Which I actually rather enjoy,
Despite all my talk about college, and leaving.
I have two besties, Bee and Rachel.
They're there when I need them, and give me space when I dont.
They understand my nerdy obsessions, and play along with my stupid games.
I dont think there is anyone else who could put up with me, but them.
My mother and father are as parental as can be.
They love Deal or No Deal, and Diet Coke,
And I love them completely.
I have a beta fish named Alpha the Beta Fish,
And a dog named Jack.
He's a yorkshire terrior, and weighs a grand total of 3.5 pounds.
That, I think, covers all the names and formalities.
Now you know who I'm talking about if any of these people are mentioned in posts to come.

There are a couple of things I love, and they include the following:
1. Vampire Weekend
They are my absolute favorite band.
I dont know how to stress that enough.
So instead, enjoy the following.

They came out with a new cd a week ago, and I get giddy just thinking about it.
Its just as awesome as I hoped it would be.
(They're coming to concert on March 18th!
Life = one step closer to being complete.)
2. Camera work
I say "camera work," because I dont feel privileged enough to say filmmaker.
But its definitely something I'm working towards.
I'm taking a documentary film class, and hopefully will eventually end up at an art school for filmmaking.
For now though, I stick to youtube.
I love recording small mundane things, and turning it into a string of cuts and edits.
For example:
If you interested, another small video I did is featured in my first blog post.
3. Otterpops
They're just the bee's knees.
I've been craving one all day.

I think, for now, that is a sufficient amount of information to get us started.
Everything else we'll learn as we go along.
As for what I plan on doing with this blog, I'm not sure.
A lot of blogs out there are showcases of photography and art work.
Sometimes their own work,
A lot of the time someone elses work.
I might do posts like that every now and then,
But I think I want a more personal blog.
And I definitely would like an interactive blog.
In other words, comments and links to your blogs are welcomed and encouraged.
Perhaps I'll end each post with a question?
Then you answer in a comment,
Or write about it in your blog and leave the link in a comment.
Hmm... yes.
I think that'll do.
So for today I would like you to tell me about yourself.
Even if I know you,
Which, lets be honest, I probably do.
Still.
Tell me about yourself.
Tell me about things you love, things you think, things you do.
Pictures are a great aid.
Just saying.
=)
Pip pip!
